This has started happening very recently and is reproduce-able at least on Samsung Internet 21.0.0.41.
How to reproduce
- In App A create a CustomTab and open a page with a link
- Click link on page that opens App B
- App B opens correctly
- The Custom Tab disappears in App A
This does not happen with other browser as default when creating the Custom Tab.
If you perform another button click before clicking the link there’s no issue and the custom tab stays open.
No tricks with using intent:// links or javascript timeouts or refresh seems to help the issue.
There’s a workaround by doing reload on the button click and then automatically triggering the link after the reload.

Hello,
Thank you for posting on the Samsung Developers Forums!

Can you please give us a public URL of a website where this issue can be reproduced?

Triggering the issue requires an app to set it up. The following page shows an example that will trigger the issue if it’s opened from a custom tab. https://chromiumredirecttest.azurewebsites.net/api/samsung-browser-issue
I could share a test-app apk if it’s any help.
Hello,
We are glad to inform you that the Samsung Internet team has fixed the issue. The fix has already started rolling out and should be completed within this month. We have already tested the new version and confirmed the fix.
