I’ve used Samsung DeX for years, and it was one of the primary deciding factors in choosing Galaxy devices over competitors — especially because of the excellent DeX for PC (Windows) experience.
As of One UI 7, I’ve noticed that DeX for PC has been removed and replaced by Link to Windows, which, in my experience, is:
Buggy and unreliable
Lacking true multitasking / windowed Android app support
Not suitable for productivity or developer workflows
Dependent on Microsoft infrastructure, unlike DeX which worked offline and over USB
In contrast, DeX for PC provided:
Full desktop-like Android environment on Windows
Offline/USB usage with minimal latency
Seamless multi-window support for apps
Ideal tools for development, teaching, and mobile productivity
While DeX is still supported via HDMI and wireless casting, the removal of PC-based DeX is a major regression for power users and professionals.
Questions for the community / Samsung:
- Is this a permanent strategic deprecation of DeX for PC?
- Is there any plan to offer DeX for PC as an opt-in or developer feature, even if unsupported?
- What justification was used to replace a working, high-function feature with something significantly less capable?
Feedback:
I strongly encourage Samsung to reconsider this decision. Link to Windows is not a viable replacement for DeX — it serves a different purpose and lacks the core capabilities that made DeX uniquely powerful.
If Samsung no longer supports DeX for PC officially, I would still request the ability to use it as an advanced/unsupported toggle for those of us who rely on it in real workflows.
Community and official insight welcome.
