Play/pause key on external keyboard doesn't work with Samsung TV

Hi, I am wondering, why the play/pause key on an external keyboard doesn’t work with my Samsung TV (UE40F6470) while playing a video file. I discovered this, because I wanted to use a programable USB foot switch board for working with videos on the TV screen. Programing the foot switch board is simply done by assigning keyboard keys to the various switches of the board. However, the play/pause key either doesn’t trigger anything on my TV or my TV doesn’t understand what is triggered, hence there is nothing to assign to my foot switch either. Interestingly, I found a document on the Samsung developer website that addresses the use of external keyboards, but based on a Samsung keyboard only, which doesn’t seem to contain a play/pause button (https://developer.samsung.com/smarttv/develop/guides/user-interaction/keyboardime.html). This may explain, why the play/pause button on other keyboard types is simply not recognized by my TV although it’s there.

Actually, I figured out a workaround, which consists of using the Enter key. However, this is annoying as it initiates a screen menu with play/pause as first entry. That means I cannot use the arrow keys for moving back and forth in a video for approximately 10 sec, as long as the menu is displayed. If I erroneously hit the arrow keys while the menu is still displayed, the cursor starts moving inside the menu, which doesn’t make sense and the time to wait before I can move on is further extended.

Nevertheless, I am still hoping for a better solution, as I could alternatively assign a string to my foot switch that my Samsung TV would interpret as hitting the play/pause button. Now here’ my question: Could anybody let me know, what string I might have to use in order to get my Smart TV correctly performing a play/pause action when hitting the corresponding switch?

Thanks a lot in advance
