If you sign up for SDC21, is your presence obligatory?
SDC 21 is Virtual, Signing up will give you notifications and allow you to download the schedule for events.
You can watch them live with a chance to participate online or see them later on YouTube.

@r.liechty_SDR So if I sign up, but I don’t have time to watch, if I will suffer any consequences?
No you will not have any consequences, it is available to all.
When it goes live again in 22 you will lose your money for not attending. 
But the online one is free.
