Cell standby issue

Hello Samsung Developers,

I’m reporting a long-standing issue that affects the Galaxy S22, S23, S24, and now S25 series — related to excessive battery drain during standby, caused by weak 5G signals or distance from cell towers.

Issue Summary:

  • Devices constantly searching for or switching between 5G/4G networks causes Cell Standby to consume excessive battery, especially in areas with poor 5G coverage.
  • This behavior leads to standby drain overnight even when the device is idle.
  • The issue exists across all firmware updates and persists through Android 15 (One UI 6.1+).
  • The Device Care app no longer shows detailed “Cell Standby” consumption data, unlike the previous TouchWiz and Samsung Experience interfaces.
  • This has led to confusion, with users blaming background apps, sleep modes, or using battery saving features that don’t solve the core issue.

Suggestion & Temporary Workaround:

  • Manually switching the network mode to 4G (LTE only) significantly reduces battery drain in weak 5G zones.
  • We urge Samsung to:
    1. Provide users with visibility again into Cell Standby usage stats in Device Care.
    2. Offer smarter radio behavior or adaptive 5G switching depending on signal strength.
    3. Officially acknowledge the issue, or provide guidance to users in affected regions.

This problem has been overlooked for years. Transparency and smarter radio logic would significantly improve user satisfaction and trust.

Thank you,
