I read through the Remote Test Lab docs, and it only seemed mention .apk files when installing apps, but not .aab files.
Is there any way to install an .aab file?

Itβs not possible.
.aab is only used by Google Play Store. Package is unpacked there & end user is receiving .apk
For testing you can only use .apk
