Hello,
I’m experiencing an issue with VPN performance on my Galaxy S24 Ultra (model S928U1).
The problem occurs only when I’m connected to a Wi-Fi 6 network on the 5 GHz band. When connected to Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 GHz or using mobile data, everything works perfectly, and there are no issues.
As soon as I connect to a VPN (regardless of the app used) on a 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 network, I begin to experience consistent bursts of high latency. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the phone continuously fluctuates its RX/TX speed, with one of them repeatedly dropping to 6 Mbps, then jumping back up to 2.4 Gbps. This behavior continues until I start using a bandwidth-heavy app such as a video call or continuous file download, which seems to stabilize the connection temporarily.
I’ve also tested this using Samsung Wi-Fi Protect, and the exact same issue occurs under the same conditions: only on Wi-Fi 6 at 5 GHz, and not on 2.4 GHz or mobile data. This points to a possible issue specific to Samsung’s handling of VPN connections over 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6.
I’ve tried every troubleshooting step I could think of:
Disabling and enabling all related features (Intelligent Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, etc.)
Using Wi-Fi Safe Mode from Developer Options
None of these helped. The issue always returns under the same conditions.
Finally, I’ve identified that the problem only occurs on 80 MHz and 160 MHz channels within the 5 GHz band, and not on 40 MHz channels.
How can I escalate this to someone at Samsung who can investigate and fix this?
Thank you.
