Am Getting this message after uploading a new release , any help please ?

I received that “Superseded by another release” message a few days ago when I was uploading one of my projects after updating to WFS 1.6.10. In my situation I saw that notice/error/warning when I was working on setting up the release, but then I discovered that I could still proceed with the release update process and push the changes to review. Maybe this is the same for you?

However, I did not see red rectangles around my message, so unless you put those there yourself in the screenshot to highlight the issue, maybe your situation is not quite the same?

Have you managed to fix that? I’m getting same message, though I was able to sent release to review and do not know yet if it’s affect the release.

Update: nevermind, I just forgot to opt-in for the wear os form factor

I just created a new project/app in the Play Console and when I created the first release for the new watch face, I saw this message again. Since there was no other release to supersede it, and the project I mentioned in my last response went through the review process without issue, I think this message we are seeing must be an “oops” in Google’s programming logic for that part of the page.

Edit 8/14/24:
So my release had this message, but passed review earlier today and I was allowed to publish. However, when I went to verify everything worked, only the companion app had published to the Play Store. I looked in Play Console again and the superseded message was still there on my Wear OS form factor release. After a little more digging and going through all my publish/release steps again, I discovered that I had not “opted in to wear OS” for that form factor’s release. As soon as I checked that box, the message went away and I was able to send that one change for review. I assume that it will publish without issue after that is reviewed. I hope this is the same issue for all of us so everyone can have an easy fix!

To check if this is the cause for your app, this is where you will need to go:

  • From the All Apps/Home screen on Console, choose your app with this issue.
  • Next, in the left side menu, choose “Setup” > “Advanced Settings”
  • Now in the page that loads, choose the “Form Factors” tab
  • If you forgot to check the “opt in” box like I did, you should see a list of “TO DO” items here and one of them should be the “opt in”.
  • Once you have checked this box, things should look normal and it should show the Wear OS form factor as active.

Thank you so much!! I spent hours trying to solve this! “Superseded by another release” isn’t a strong clue that one has omitted to opt in to Wear OS.
