Watch face does not go into ambient mode after reboot until unlocked

I have installed my minimal watchface (analog hands, sec pointer and 3 complications) created for my W5 in Feb this year on my new W6. Now, after a reboot the watch starts and stays in a ‘buggy’ active mode. The analog hands show, but the seconds pointer skips 2 to 10 seconds and the watch does not go into ambient mode. If I enter the unlock pattern, the watch starts normally and then continues to works as expected (no more skipping seconds and ambient mode works again).
any ideas?

Since it is a very simple watch face I’d suggest you start from scratch and create a new version using WFS 1.14.20 and see if that resolves it.

If it doesn’t let us know.

Thanks, I have rebuild the watch face from scratch using 1.4.20, unfortunately same issue…

Just removed all complications and the sec pointer leaving a watch face with only 2 hands for the normal mode and 2 slightly smaller hands for the AOD mode. Issue remains. When watch starts after a reboot it starts in normal mode, then slightly dims after a few seconds, but never enters AOD mode until the pattern is entered to unlock the watch.

I don’t want to have to lock my watch to see if that is the issue. I will but can you try it without any lock and see if that makes a difference for you.

That sounds more like the issue than a watch face issue.

Yes, that is indeed causing the issue. Without the lock it works fine, but Google Wallet requires the lock. It is not a big problem, I just need to remember to unlock the watch after a reboot to activate the AOD. Would have been nice if it behaved like other watch faces. Not sure if it is a watch or a watch-face issue…

by reboot do you mean holding down the power keys until it says rebooting or do you mean turning the watch off then back on?

Rebooting clears the cache and resets some settings and permissions. Turning it off may not clear the caches and should not affect the settings.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant turning the watch off and on again.
I also noticed that for some watch faces downloaded from the play store, after a restart initially a digital time (different from the intended watch face) is shown, again only until the unlock pattern is entered. So it looks as if there is some kind of pre “watch-face” mode (?)

I imagine it is the Icon. Is it 10:08 that is the default time (where most of your complications will show up clearly.) Or the watch face you see when you long press to change watch faces?

I thought watch AOD is supposed to be locked when you have locked mode on unless you set it for Payments Only. But I think you are saying this is new with Wear 4 right? I can play with it and see what I have on mine and report it.
