WFS deleted entire watchface

I created a new watch face over several days. That went well the whole time. I had saved it again and again in between. Yesterday it was no longer to be found. The entire folder could no longer be found.
I had no choice but to recreate the whole project. Now it is finished and submitted to Google, but I fear that this is a serious bug that could happen again.

I have never heard of this. I don’t believe WFS has the ability to delete a file.

Did you search for it in File Manager.
Look for it in the Recycle Bin if it was deleted and not moved it would be there.

Yes i did that. The file has disappeared.

I could also create a new project with exactly the same name without the message that the file already exists and would be overwritten.

It happened to me before with the first version of WFS. It wasn’t so bad at the time because I had started the project from scratch.

Either way: I will now double and triple data backups on my projects.
So far I have always backed up my files in the workspace “real time”. But if the file is completely deleted, it will also be deleted in real time by my data backup program. I didn’t take that into account.

PS:
However, I think I read a long time ago in the forum that someone lost all their data in the workspace. But I can’t find the post in a hurry.

Are you using the cloud the only time I heard of this was when someone was using the cloud storage (GWS in that case) and the user closed Windows before the file got wrote to the cloud.
Did you search for hidden files too? For example if you accidently typed a period at the start of a file name that would hide it.

I believe report of deleted files you were thinking of was the user had his workspace in the Galaxy Watch Studio folder and that was deleted when the 1.0.3 update was installed. It is common to remove the entire folder when uninstalling but the issue was fixed in the 1.0.12 hotfix.

If it was renamed or in a different folder that would not be any issue.

This sounds more like your back up program. I’ll ask but I’m pretty sure that WFS does not have the ability to delete files only write and overwrite them.

In the end, I don’t know what happened there. I briefly closed WFS, but did not turn off the PC. A few minutes later I wanted to reopen the project, but it was gone. I cannot reproduce the bug. But that’s a good thing.
I have now rebuilt the watch face and it has already been approved by Google. So: Everything is fine again

Hi TS,

There are other reports on the project disappearing. The development team is looking into see if they can find what condition would cause it. Since it has happened to you more than once I would suggest you do a save-as frequently to ensure you have a fairly up to date copy.

I apologize for doubting you.

Hi Ron,

There is no need to apologize. Indeed, it is very difficult to believe that one program has the power to make an entire project go away. This is usually only done by computer viruses.

Thank you for the information. I immediately backed up the entire WFS program folder and also the workspace manually.
Usually I have it done automatically. But now I’m playing it safe.

Edit:
Could it be that this error occurs if you close the program too early while saving? Unfortunately, no memory progress is visible.

This happened to me also. Working on the project, worked on. Then some day, when I wanted to open the project, it was gone from WFS - My Workspace. Tried the Open folder feature, the file is there, but cannot be opened, it just gives an error: Invalid project file. Wasted days of work :frowning:
When I looked at the file, it has 0KB. Other projects are ok. Only this one I worked in the past several days is gone. Using WFS 1.0.11 version.

Since it has happened to you once I suggest you start backing up all .wfs files to a different folder on a regular basis. If you have anything out of the ordinary that you think of please let us know.

Today, the WFS program removed the dial for me too - 2 weeks of work. Yesterday I made the latest updates - today the file is empty

Thanks Evgeniy,

I will let the Development Team know. They have seen this but could not reproduce it. That error message may be useful to them !!

I hope everyone is running a backup program
