Hello. In my new version of the SM-R960NZSASER software for the Galaxy Watch 6, the automatic update of the weather app does not work. All permissions for the application on the recommendation of Samsung are fulfilled both on the watch and on the smartphone. You can only update the weather manually. After installing the update, the watch was completely reset. The Oneplus 5T smartphone. What are your ideas or solutions? I’m sorry for my English.
Did you check the app update interval settings? For me it works…no issues.
Yes. In the Galaxy Wearable settings, settings, apps, weather, app settings. Both on the smartphone and in the watch, location applications are given permissions -“always”… Battery saving is disabled for the app. Maybe the reason the smartphone is not Samsung?
The application itself works well, but only in the “update manually” mode.
I tried the interval - 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours. But the last update time corresponds to the last manual update even after 8 hours.
I did try to look what the weather provider sources was. I know on my Fossil and with Facer Faces it helped me to have a startup routine on the phone to open and close OpenWeather to ensure it was loaded up and then the ‘run in background’ took care of the rest.
- [Thanks, I’ve tried installing different providers. I turned off Bluetooth and left only Wi-Fi, it seems that the weather app just “falls asleep” in the clock. The application itself responds to the update in the clock by tapping in the application card.]
Watch start up routine sounds interesting .
Hi krolev, it sounds frustrating when the weather app won’t update on its own. Did you check if the watch lets apps run in the background? Maybe try syncing it again with your phone to see if it helps.
Hello. Thank you for your reply. Yes, I tried that. Let me explain again. When I open the weather card on my watch - the weather is updated fine and without problems. But if the card is not opened the weather on my watch face is not updated until the next time I open the card.
I tried the dial itself under “battery, app in sleep mode” to disable for that state. Didn’t work. It’s as if my dials have a ban on accessing the weather in the backgr Iound.
It sounds like the weather app isn’t updating in the background properly. Have you checked the permissions or background app settings on the watch?
Sometimes turning it off and on again can help. If that doesn’t work, maybe try resetting the watch to fix the issue.
Thank you for your participation in my problem.
I’ve done a lot of analysis of the reports of the Galaxy Watch 6 weather update not working on the internet for a few and came to a clear conclusion: it doesn’t work with smartphones manufactured by non-Samsung. I have a OnePlus 9 smartphone. Nor does it work on smartphones from many other manufacturers. This is most likely a company policy to attract customers, or collusion with the weather company. In any case, it is a deception of the buyer. There is no information about incompatibility of devices when buying watches in the store or on the Internet portal. Ideally, this is a violation of the buyer’s rights. I will buy a watch from another manufacturer. Because I have Samsung as a simple and useless toy.
That’s really disappointing to hear. I hope you find a watch that works better with your phone. Compatibility issues like this can be so frustrating.
Thank you for the message. Yes I have used all the possibilities.
1 The clock has been updated to the latest version. A full reset was performed afterwards.
2 On the clock, the weather program is allowed access -forever.
3 On the smartphone in Galaxy Wearable, in settings, apps, weather, app settings all permissions are selected- location, update frequency (1 hour). Background activity is enabled.
4 In Galaxy Wearable, background activity is also allowed. Battery saving is disabled.
There was only one update on 07.08.00 Local Time. And this reading does not change further during the day.
If you manually open the weather card in the watch, the update always happens. If you do not touch it, the automatic update does not occur.
For addendum. The weather is also updated when you change from one dial to another. And also once.
Thanks to everyone who participated in my problem. The problem was solved by one of the privacy settings on my smartphone. I apologize to Samsung for my unfounded suspicions.
Could you post which one please, in case others have the same issue and it is one of the less obvious options.
Thanks.
In my system settings, under device protection, subsection Smart Lock, add the GW6 Classic (cokl) device to trusted devices. It worked for me. But I will test it more. Updates started to come, but not regularly. I need to test the weather server in my country.
That would make some kind of sense as Smart Lock would keep the bluetooth connection alive.
If not using Smart Lock however, it could be an indication of something else going to sleep when it shouldn’t and only being woken by manual intervention.
Thanks for the tips. I have already scrutinized every item in the smartphone and watch menus twice. All necessary authorizations have been given. There are no other programs interfering with the work. I have checked the work of applications running in the background on the smartphone and in the watch. The weather application in the watch works every time the weather application card is opened or the weather application is opened, as well as when the watch face is changed. The dial screen is set to the last update time using ICU date and time , to be able to check for weather updates without forcing it to run. But the updates in the background are either not regular (1 hour) or not available. I think it’s a problem in the clock but can’t find it.
I apologize for my English.
Thanks to everyone who participated in my problem. Now I am finally convinced that it is Samsung’s fault. It did not optimize this application for watches of other manufacturers. Today s met with the same problem of Galaxy Watch 7 owners with OnePlus smartphones, Pixel 6a, Google Pixel 7 and many others. All this applies to the Galaxy Watch 6 in full. Well, this is not decent on Samsung’s part. On the packaging of the watch should be written-“for Samsung smartphones only”. That would be fair.
Maybe it will help someone, if he/she really needs it.
I managed to solve the problem with automatic weather update on galaxy watch 6 by installing MacroDroid application on my smartphone. In this application I created a macro that regularly (once an hour, once every two hours, once every three hours…or whatever time you want) performs the following actions on the smartphone - turns off Bluetooth and turns off the location for 10 seconds, then turns on Bluetooth, location and location update, and also starts the activity of the weather channel application. (I have inserted the command to force close the weather app next).
I’m not very good at programming, and maybe this can be optimized, but it works 100% of the time
Hi, I also had the same problem only when I leave the weather in GPS management. If I enter a well-defined location (such as Milan) the weather is always updated. On the contrary, if I enter the location managed by GPS, I think that if it does not find a corresponding weather station or near the GPS this correctly marks “null”, until a new weather station sends the data. The same problem occurs with the radio in the car with RDS inserted automatically. So I do not think it is a Samsung problem on the watch but of the provider in the management of the weather data.
