Can't Install Latest Update - 1.8.7

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help. I was on WFS 1.7.13 and noticed 1.8.10 came out yesterday (4/14). I downloaded it but when I attempt to install it, I get an error saying the install program cannot close WFS. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the error, the folder where the .exe is, and my task bar showing that WFS is, indeed, closed (far right shows my closed older version and the running install). I opened task manager to see if WFS was running and it was not.

I’m not a developer, so if you have suggestions, please keep them non-technical.

I’m on Windows 11 22H2, latest version.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Actually 1.8.10 came out yesterday, not 1.8.7. Have you tried rebooting. It really does look like WFS is still open. You could also go into Task Manager → Details and kill it there.

Actually I just noticed you have the installer in the install folder. That folder gets wiped out by the installer. So if you are running the installer from the a folder it’s trying to delete, in essence, it’s trying to delete itself while its running. Move it to a different folder and you should be fine.

KE3JU, thank you, I’ll try that. But before I do, now I’m worried about what the install will delete!! I have a whole LOT of image files in the Resources folder, under that folder where the installer is that I don’t want to lose.

So, where should I put the installer to avoid losing anything?

Thank you!!!

KE3JU, That was the issue. Thank you so much for your help!!

I decided to try to figure out how to make sure I didn’t lose any of the images I had saved there, so I made a copy of the whole folder and saved it elsewhere, then created a new WFS folder, put the install file there and ran it. It installed perfectly.

I then moved all my personal watch face images into the new folder. This time, instead of mingling them with the default images, I created separate folders for my own. Next update, I’ll only have to move the folders to the new location instead of having to go through all the files.

Thanks, again!

I have never found an update to disturb my previous files . But yes making a copy is a good Idea . I am glad they
merged OK . :+1::blush:

I wrote an executable that will resize and reposition WFS at launch, because the developers think its funny for it to not save look and feel. I keep it in the WFS folder, and every time I install a new version of WFS it gets wiped out. That’s how I found out the install folder gets wiped. The Watch Face files should all be safe and sound in the WatchFaceStudio folder in your profile tho.
