Help! Why my .gwd projects do not save all the data content?

I’m a real novice in the Galaxy Watch Studio, so I’m starting my learning curve.

Despite it, the Studio has intuitive tools and I was able to build a simple watch face as I desired.

I’ve used the Run On Device (F9) to send my watch face to my Galaxy Active 2 and it’s running OK on it as expected… And the job was saved thru the File → Save (ctrl+S) (Note: As a computer user since DOS, I am a “freaking” saver of my work, saving it every new added/edited task).

Today I’ve opened the Galaxy Watch Studio to edit the watch face and was able to select the desired one choosing by the thumbnail as the picture below:

What was my surprise when the project opens is basically empty… 80% of the project content is not there as in the image below:

So I’ve tested to add just one new item and save, but nothing is being saved despite the items in the previous picture (!?!?!). WTF!!!

I’m using the Galaxy Watch Studio version 2.0.1_Beta:

I’ve searched in the forum for a similar issue like mine and I’ve found the “Cannot save watch file” that isn’t the same as my problem… Does anyone have any idea what’s happened? Is this my fault in building the project or is it a software bug?

Thanks a lot!

I assume you are on Windows and not macOS.

First off see if you made a and designed the Watch face in the AOD window. (toggled in the upper right corner and similar icon in the preview window). I’ve done that myself.

If this is just one project then I’d assume it is user error. If you make a copy and rename the .gwd file to .zip and open it that way. That may tell you if they were in it once and now gone or never really added to the project during a back up.

If you are using cloud storage for backup I’ve seen issues with that but other than that this is a new one.

Hi Ron. Thank you for the reply and I’m sorry to took so long to provide answers for the suggested tests.

I double checked the AOD and the project was designed in the “Normal” screen, not the AOD. If I click on the AOD top right corner button you’ve mentioned i receive a Warning like the one below, so I’l “quite sure” I’m designing the watch face in the correct place…

Regarding making a copy of the .gwd and renaming to .zip I’ve testes as well. When I open the .zip I can see that the icon of the watch face is “empty” same as when I open the project.

I don’t have experience with the Studio to understand the other files inside the .zip of the project, but the fact of the icon inside the .zip is empty and the icon of the Studio new project screen shows all the project’s elements is weird!

I’m afraid to start once again (3rd in a roll) a project and at the end do not have it correctly saved, loosing all the work done.

Taking advantage of this discussion, I’ve just started a new project from scratch for testing purpose. Since I started to use the Studio, every time I save the project I receive some warnings like to one below. By default I just click YES or OK to go ahead…

Am I doing wrong? If yes, what is this warning?

On the other hand, when I try to deploy the project to the watch thru WiFi using the F9 (Run On Device) I have this waring

What does it means? Would I have some file or whatever to don’t have this kind of warning?

Last but not least, the Target API version is locked on the “Tizen 4.0 Wearable devices”.

I’ve check that my Galaxy Watch Active 2 is running Tizen 5.5.0.2. Should I use a newer API or this is OK?

Tks in advance.

Back to unsaved project a couple checks. Go to Project menu preferences → General and see if the location for your project is the same as your project is located. Default is in the C:\Users\Username\Gearwatchdesigner\workspace folder if you have it somewhere else try changing it to that folder. Make sure it isn’t a cloud drive.
unlock all the items you have locked and make sure you didn’t somehow change the opacity to zero somehow that those items are actually visible.

You need to have an AOD for newer Tizen based watches. If you con’t create one then GWS will create one for you.
You can tell that the difference between the two windows because in both the working window and the preview window there will be annotation about the on pixel ratio. On the bottom of the work window, top of the preview window. You seem to be OK for that.

There is an image but it is just the black background

Galaxy Watch Designer Project format changed a few years ago when the ability to create Tizen 2.x project was removed. This warning is telling you that you can’t open these new projects with the older GWD software. Click don’t show again you can ignore this warning.

On the other hand, when I try to deploy the project to the watch thru WiFi using the F9 (Run On Device) I have this waring

You have to build the project if you are successfully building the project there should be a .tpk file with the same name in the Workspace folder.

Also you need an Author and Distributor Certificates which I assume you already have. However if you had a designer certificate for your watch, the watch might have updated to software and you need a new designer certificate to run on Watch.

Last but not least, the Target API version is locked on the “Tizen 4.0 Wearable devices”.

Tizen OS is backwards compatible so building for Tizen 4 is fine. The only thing in Tizen 5.5.x is some Health updates that are not supported by GWS so building for 5.5 wouldn’t help.

Hi Ron.

After MANY tests, I guess I found the step that brakes the project and makes the mess I’m facing regarding lost of project content.

I created a project from scratch and after each item addition I saved the project and a backup, send to the watch, close the Watch Studio, open it and load the project, observing if the last addition stiils there. I took a time, but I was able to finish a full and “complex” project without problem. However when I generate the AOD the project was broken and nomatter what else I try to add to the project only the AOD content in both development environemnt (normal or AOD) remais when saved. The AOD is causing the problem!

For some reason if I just click the AOD button of the Galaxy Watch Studio the project messed.

Have you had the opportunity to hear any previous information on similar issue? I do not need the AOD, but if I wrongly click on the auto AOD generation during the sending of the project to the watch I have the project corrupted and I’d like to solve this issue or at least manage it to minimize the corruption possibility. In fact the BEST option would be to be possible to generate the AOD flawless…

Thank you in advance and let me know your comments

I understand now and I can duplicate this. It is GWS 2.0.1 bug and it affects me as well.
go to the download page
below the download 2.0.1 box is Previous issues
download beta 2.0.0 from April 2020
Uninstall the 2.0.1 and install the 2.0.0 version
I bet all your cares and woes go away.

Thanks for sticking too it. I had not realized I had not updated.
