More than 8 complications?

Hey there,

I posted a while ago asking whether I coud have more than 8 complications. I believe I understand the issues/risks involved and I’m fine with it; I wont be publishing the face on any store. Besides, I dont intend to go too far over 8 complications.

I was told that it might he possible, but I recieved no answer on how this can be achieved. What are the steps involved, if anyone knows?

Also, how does the watch calculate/render these complications? I noticed that my watch face would often ‘refresh’ when i went back to the home screen - does this mean its not constantly updating or checking the servers for new information? How about when the watch is ‘opened’ - (i dont have AOD on) when I flick my wrist or press a button to turn on the display? Does it get the latest data at that moment, or is it constantly refreshing the data anyway?

Thanks!!

Complications are definitely not constantly refreshed. Google puts strict controls on complications to ensure that they don’t kill the battery by doing so. The short answer is ‘every five minutes’, but the fuller answer is here. Changing watch faces or complications will cause a refresh, but that’s not useful in normal operation.

I doubt that anyone has found any loopholes in the limitation of 8. It will be up to you to try it. I suspect it will be impossible.

Alright, cheers, thank you.

I wonder, can i make my own tiles? And can i add complications onto them?

Yes, you can make your own tiles. I have. You can’t add complications to them per se, but you really don’t need to because you can display anything you like on a tile. Moreover, tiles can update as frequently as required.

The main disadvantage is that a tile won’t be displayed indefinitely: the watch will revert to the watchface after a while. Plus, there’s no simple GUI like WFS for developing tiles. You could just as easily write an app. The latter might even be more politically correct since a tile is supposed to display one sort of thing, rather than >8.

Hmph. Thats annoying. I guess tiles are just widgets… they need an app in and out of themselves, that can display data…

…i wonder if anyones made such an app, that has a tile that cam be customiaed in app to display data, in the same way as complications…? Can an external app even read other app data in order to get the data used in complications?

Last question:
Is there a way to move the location of the tray icons on the watchface (e.g. phone disconnect symbol, charging symbol)?
How about the bottom: media icon?
Are there any other icons that appear at the bottom rather than the top? Is this customisable? How about the left and right sides?

Thank you very much!
