New device verification for Google Play Developers

Hello all,

I have done the identity verification (again) that Google had me sign up to do and everything has seemingly gone well. I have no notes or messages on my Google Play Console to do anything else. The question I have is that I have read that Google now requires developers to verify that they actually have an Android device (Really? C’mon…) Anyway, I checked the Google Play Console help as to how I can proceed to verify this and I cannot find in my Console where to do this??
I wonder if anyone here has done it yet?

Here are the instructions as per Google on how to get started to verify your device. See if you can find it anywhere in your Console.

PS. It says “Starting in early 2024, developers with new personal accounts will be required to verify that they have access to a real Android mobile device using the Play Console mobile app before they can make their app available on Google Play.” Perhaps this doesn’t apply to me since I have had my developer account since AUG/23? So, maybe I don’t have to do it?? I just don’t want any surprises down the road…

Device verification requirements for new developer accounts

Starting in early 2024, developers with new personal accounts will be required to verify that they have access to a real Android mobile device using the Play Console mobile app before they can make their app available on Google Play.

This is an important step in our ongoing efforts to improve user trust and safety for the billions of people that use Google Play. By requiring developers to verify that they have access to an Android device, we can help ensure that they are able to properly test their apps before making them available to users. This will help to improve the quality of apps on Google Play, and to keep users safe.

Complete device verifications

  1. Log into your Play Console account (web version) as the account owner (that is, using the Google account that was used to create the developer account).
  2. Go to the Home page.
  3. Find the “Verify that you have access to an Android mobile device” task and click View details.
  4. Scan the QR code to launch or install the Play Console mobile app on the device that you wish to use to complete verifications.
  5. Open the Play Console mobile app and log in as the account owner.
  6. Select your developer account.
  7. Tap Verify and follow the instructions on screen.
  8. After completing device verification, the mobile device verification task will no longer be shown on the Home page in Play Console.

Hello. This is new to me and I haven’t found it for myself yet. I’ve been registered for 3 years. I only have to have completed the account confirmation from July 14, 2004.

I dont see mobile device verification on my account. But i also do have account verification requirment since Dec 2023.

I was allowed to choose deadline month and i chose Nov 2024 in Dec 2023. So i have known this requirment for last 6 months. This mobile device verification perhaps is limited to new developers.
