You’re not wrong about any of this. It kinda tells me where we fit in the Wear OS/Samsung big picture which is way, way at the bottom. Sometimes, I just don’t feel very welcome in fact.
I agree with you on that.
Apparently Samsung also has difficulty helping developers connect with Google. And after a long time of launch, posting watch faces on Play store and selling them is still very difficult. All watch face have almost disappeared and it is not even close to the Galaxy store in selling watch faces.
We could maybe try to contact google play console support because it seems like they are having problems currently because I had to wait 2 months and contact their support to be able to get my closed testing reviewed. We could also tell them that we are using WFS so we need to wait for an update?
Just received warnings on all of my watchfaces.
Anyone have any idea when new watch face studio will come out ? As If it’s not coming before 31st August then most of the Watch faces will disappear from Playstore.
I sent an email to google play console customer care to see what they will do ( Should get an answer on Monday).
We urgently need an updated Watch Face Studio.
Thats true and hurtful They all make sure to take extra steps to enhance our experience of “you are not welcomed here” part. But we all persevere
Hello all,
This is Jakia from Samsung Developer Program Team.
WFS team is working on new version. Upcoming version will support Target SDK version 33 and it is planned to be released within August, 2024.
Thank you,
Jakia
Well here is the response guys should’nt have been scared D:
I am still concerned that when they say “within August, 2024” it will end up meaning the end of August, 2024 rather than the beginning. Even if they release on 8/1/24, that doesn’t leave very much time for the developers with a lot of watch faces to update all of them in time.
At least something is better then nothing
Google is expected to provide an extension until November 1st to release the updates.
At the moment there doesn’t seem to be this option but I hope it will be added soon.
I really hope that Galaxy Store open’s up for dev’s to publish Wear OS apps there. Google Play’s frequent policy changes is really … tiring.
I also fear it won’t be as easy as just updating/publishing old faces through the updated WFS API as “the Google” has been rejecting things left, right, and center these days. Even though they have already made it to production.
I’m able to target SDK 34 for the companion app.
I’m not able to target SDK 33 for the Wear OS app, and only API 30+.
Now I’m confused, what’s the difference between API and SDK ? Are they the same?
It’s already open, but for China only.
Only way, waiting for a new version WFS support Wear OS app must target Android 13 (API level 33) or higher. We cannot custom config files’s WFS.
You can rebuild a watchface with Android Studio, targeting any SDK.
