Any ideas on debugging Smart Hub Preview without the emulator?

So the problem we’re facing these days is that there doesn’t seem to be any way to debug our existing Preview Service on any actual TV’s (we’re using the Personal Preview service). I’ve tried this on 2018, 2019, and 2020 devices to no avail.

In the past, I’ve had to run the Tizen emulator in order to test/debug the service (even then being a nightmare as Samsung had locked down SDB access without a special rpm file). However, now that our teams are primarily on Apple silicon, the emulator does not work for us.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a limitation with Preview working when side-loading the app (the FAQ’s specify USB side loading, but I’m finding that the same is true when launching via the Tizen Studio debugger).

Anyone else run into this problem? I’m trying to avoid having to requisition an older Intel machine just to work on this feature but so far that seems to be our only option.

Just want to follow up for posterity.

It appears that the Preview Service should actually work when side-loading the app, but there’s an issue with my 2018 TV here that prevented it (and I must have fallen into the confirmation bias trap when testing the other models - retested on a 2021 TV and it worked).

Still crazy that Samsung makes it so difficult to properly debug this feature, however. Hopefully we can get proper emulator/rpm support sometime soon.
