Cannot save watch file [SOLVED]

A couple things I found of interest
If you do an update to 1.8.1 it installs in the Galaxy Watch Designer folder but if you do a fresh download and install it it create a new Galaxy Watch Studio folder. That may be why you couldn’t delete the old folder I’ll check on that.

You have a very old gwd project and I think that is the reason each version changed the project file from 1.3 - 1.6 If there is no way to recreate the project from scratch then download 1.5.1 and update the project to that then try to do this with GWS 2.0 You can dowload old versions from HERE

This happens with any gwd file, new or old. I just used 24hr GS.gwd as an example.

start GWS using eclipsec.exe in the Galaxy Watch Designer or Galaxy Watch Studio folder that will create a log save that log and then see if you can find anything that stands out.

If not then submit a bug report and include that log in your bug report. I wish I could help but I’m just mystified.

Hi Mo
Try one more thing COPY your workspace folder to your external seagate drive
now do the “save as” to the workspace in the external seagate drive and see if it works,
just trying to break down this problem step by step, if this works there is some kind of system issue.

@Malcolm_319
Tried the external drive recommendation, still same problem as always.

@r.liechty_SDR
Started GWS with eclipse.exe and generated bug report. Noticed reoccurring error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Argument cannot be null
This appears numerous times throughout the report in single lines and as part of a cluster such as:

DEBUG (Project.java:397) - Event fired : REFRESH_PROPERTIES
INFO (PropertiesPart.java:309) - Event received: REFRESH_PROPERTIES
INFO (Project.java:1104) - Project saveXml::(watchface.xml for gwd
INFO (XmlSaver.java:99) - Save XML: C:\Users\admin\GearWatchDesigner\workspace.24hr GS\res\watchface.xml
INFO (PropertiesPart.java:309) - Event received: REFRESH_PROPERTIES
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Argument cannot be null

I have no idea what to do with this info. Bug report submitted.
In the meantime, will continue to use GWD1.8.1 with no problems.

Thanks to all for your persistent help. Greatly appreciated.

Still fooling with GWS 2.0.0 (quite frustrating).
During uninstall of GWS 2.0.0 this error pops up:

Does this provide any clue to the problem?

I think the issue is with having both GWD and GWS installed the VB script to cleanconf not running may be the issue.

Add that to your report.

Even though GWD 1.8.1 is installed (and I’m using it) it does not show up in the Control Panel Uninstall Program window. How would I properly uninstall it?

I’m thinking that there is a registry error(s) somewhere.

I give up. Stuck with 1.8.1 for now.

I’m thinking that too, I think that is what the cleanconf.vbs script does it sounds like clean configuration. I’ve reported it to the GWS Tech support team as I have the same uninstall issues as you have.

Well, I tried a clean install of GWS:

Deleted ALL entires in the registry for Galaxy Watch Studio and Galaxy Watch Designer, then
Manually deleted ALL files/folders for both applications in Win file explorer (there were no uninstall options for these apps anywhere), then
Downloaded and installed GWS.

Result:
Same problem still exists.

I have to ask, did you restart the computer before installing GWS? I’m sure you did but I had to ask.

Shot in the dark here but …
Can you create a new user and install in that new user and see if a name other than admin allows you to save?

Ron

I did restart the pc prior to and after GWS install.
Creating new user did not resolve issue.

Gave up on GWS 2.0.0
Back to GWD 1.8.1

I know you aren’t seeing things  that happened to me a while back and I’ll try to remember what it was.

What I did notice is that when I opened a project in GWS, it did not create the hidden folder in the same location as the project. That’s how I knew it wasn’t saving anything I did…

When I open a project in GWS 2.0, it does create a hidden file in the same location as the project. But it still will not SAVE a project.

This is a message I get when upgrading from 1.8.1 to 2.0. Does this warning have any relevance to the “NO SAVE” issue that i keep having:

I got the SSL error too it has to do with the Java installer.

Some other thoughts I’ve had.
GWD doesn’t show in “add remove applications” you have to do it from the file folder or from the Windows app menu GWD/uninstall

I think you’ve tried about everything I can think of. Any luck with support?

No luck with support. I received one response that told me to install GWS under a different account because they could not reproduce the problem. So I am pretty much SOL.

Create a new Folder
C:\Users\Public\GWS Workspace

in the preferences set that as the workspace folder (note select the folder don’t open it as it looks for a folder).
Copy an project there or create a new one.
See if that saves it now. I tried this 3 times with various ways to create a GWD project, old one, new one. copied but not removed from other folder. No problem saving any time.

Let me know if that works, I’ll update the support request if it works.

This does not resolve the issue. Thanks anyways.

I still have a feeling this Windows error upon installation of GWS is the key to the problem:

Even though Windows returns this error, the path and file do indeed exist after installation.

I got that error when I removed GWS 2.0 and it did not affect installation of GWD 1.8.1 removal of that and reinstalling GWS 2.0

I believe the reason why the cleanconf.vbs has an error is because when you update GWD 1.8.1 to GWS it reinstalls in GWD folder. But a clean install of GWS installed in Galaxy Watch Studio folder.

I don’t like messing in system registry files but it may come down to wiping everything GWD/GWS related. Perhaps support can assist you in that.

I actually did get into the registry and removed everything GWD/GWS related. It did not help.
This is maddening.
