Change to Seller Registration Requirements

Hi Dany,

They excluded All Watch Faces/App not just Tizen. Themes are excluded and they are also Android Apps.

Free Themes and Watch sellers will however need to become commercial sellers to continue to be in the store. But they don’t need the DUNS number.

now I don’t understand Ron. I sell themes and watch faces (tizen, and the Wear Os I exclude), will I be required to create a DUNS number? BECAUSE from what I had understood it was not mandatory.
I’m Private Seller, Commercial Distribution Seller

Since you are already a commercial seller you will not need to do anything to continue to sell themes or Watch app/faces.

Someone that is currently a Free Theme or Watch seller would need to become a commercial seller but would not need to have a DUNS number.

DUNS number only for the company entity, not for personal or individual: https://www.dnb.com/duns-number.html.
Since we are personal/individual developers, we could not get the DUNS number, research it carefully before changing your policy.
Apple and Google do not require DUNS numbers too, why you are required it? Android app ecosystem nowadays depends on both individual developer and companies, please don’t change policy like that.

Same in my country, they just get rid of individual developer and only allow companies app

RON, the new policy require exist app seller add the DUNS too, and individual could not get it.

The policy change was there will no longer be any individual or free sellers did you miss that?

Correct you must form a business to be a seller for Samsung Galaxy Store. In most parts of the world it is simply listing the business at the local government.

Since we are personal/individual developers, we could not get the DUNS number, research it carefully before changing your policy.

Again, the policy change is that there are no more Individual developers nor any non-commercial Developers After February.

Apple already requires it, I believe Play Store has other processes.

I hope this clarifies it for you if you have further questions I can help or you can contact the Seller Portal directly.

You are wrong, Apple only require DUNS for corporate account, personal account not require, they allow both. Google will not do like that, personal developer is a key strategy to make Android ecosystem nowadays.
Anyway, I have already a “Commercial Distribution Seller” but I am could not get a DUNS, so it is the end of my 10 years account with many apps, that is a pity. Personal not mean less trust with company, with Google they verify personal ID.

I understand but Samsung is only going to have commercial (corporate) accounts now.

If you open a Developer Support ticket the Developer Program is trying to create a FAQ that will help hard working sellers to get a DUNS number.

It is unfortunate that faux sellers took advantage of Samsung Galaxy Store and hard working developers that create useful apps were penalized as a result.

Hi @r.liechty_SDR ,

Is it possible for the deadline to be extended?
In my country, registering a company can take several weeks and obtaining the DUNS number can take up to 40 working days.
I’m afraid I won’t get the DUNS number before February 2023.
I think that the deadline given is too short for a change of this magnitude.

Hi NoMad,

For existing Android App sellers the DUNS number isn’t required until February 28th 2023. As I read it, “Free” sellers will be required to change to commercial seller and have a DUNS number by February 28th as well. If you are a Free seller you may want to confirm that with the Seller Portal Contact Us page.

The seller accounts will not be forfeited if you don’t meet the requirements but your content will be suspended and eventually terminated.

Starting December first new Android app sellers will be required to have a DUNS number before they can submit content.

Are we talking about https://www.dnb.com/duns-number/get-a-duns.html here?

That has options for “US based business”, “Canada based business”, “Apple developer” and “UFI to register with the FDA”. That doesn’t look like any of these options would apply for non-US/non-Canada based non-Apple developers (irrespective of the kind of business you have)…

Ok, @r.liechty_SDR .

So I’m going to run to get the DUNS number before the end of February.

If by chance I don’t get it in time and have my apps suspended, if I happen to get the DUNS number only in March 2023, my apps will be reinstated after registering my DUNS number or I will have to publish them again in the store and I will lose all users?

About the bad developers (bad apples) you mentioned earlier here in the thread, what types of developers do you refer to? I do my best to give my users the best experience possible, but since my main skill is programming, when it comes to graphics, my apps aren’t the prettiest and most elegant. Even so, many users who download my apps rate them positively.

So, would I be a bad developer? Or are you referring to scam apps or ones that have too many ads? I ask this so that my effort to get the DUNS number is not in vain. If in Samsung’s eyes I’m a bad developer, I’d rather not invest my time and energy into this store.

Exactly that. Unfortunately a side effect of Covid was a lot of people had a lot of time to write or just copy useless apps that were only created to generate ad money by bombing the app with ads. Also there were outright scams. Making sellers commercial sellers and provide legal addresses should stop those.

Also there is a way to do credit card fraud. Requiring DUNS verification number should stop that.

Legitimate sellers with ads have nothing to fear

Hello, I also come to leave my indignation, it is sad to see that Samsung has no respect for individual developers. I honestly didn’t expect this behavior, but with these new DUNS rules it’s sad to see that developers will have to leave the store, especially me. Hopefully one day Samsung will back off. I thought DUNS was free, but it’s not. It is not possible to be a small developer and grow in the Galaxy Store, they already charge a 30% fee on any sale made within the store, they charge a fee when paying the developer (using a bank account) and I still have to pay a considerable amount on the DUNS number, apart from the fees in my country for having a company. This is regrettable. Other than that, anyone who has used the Galaxy Store knows that this store is light years behind, it does not provide full support for developers, the quality provided by the store is not so good and the store administrators also end up suffering from all of this. Galaxy Store has grown a lot but the team has grown little. Samsung still has a lot to learn from its own store. Anyway my fellow developers, I share your feelings .-.

Very sad situation, I’m individual developer from Ukraine. There is no opportunities to receive DUN in my country. DUN official distributor located only in Russia (he servs Ukraine Belorussia Moldova and other countries ) But this service costs 200 USD. Why I need to pay 200 usd? Why Russia with big sanctions still working with DUN? And what I must to do to get the DUN? I think it is impossible. I like Galaxy Store but is it time to say goodbye?

I need to add my 2 cents here,

i dont understand this decision it kills all independent developers, i write apps for fun and to improve my code, i am also professionally employed by a company, however what i am not going to do is create a company myself so that my god damn goverment can tax me every month just for the privilege of having a duns number.

Shame i really liked your store and did not want to leave but you are forcing me, also i cant think of a single other store that has this policy change.

Exactly, how dare they force us to pay taxes on revenue we generate, we should be able to hide this income from the government.

Im trying to register for seller account but your system seems to be completely broken atm
!

It also does not show the business license upload section on first open after entering DUNS, but does lock business address. After error the business address fields are unlocked and the business license upload section is shown but submitting all the information again just shows the same error

Please fix your bugs  I expect a high-quality interface experience from Samsung as a developer as you control about 1/3 of mobile
