Samsung Health not writing steps to Health Connect?

As far as I can see, one year after my original post, steps are still not being written into Health Connect, though they are at least now included in the list of permissions to be written.

I find it hard to believe there is a technical reason for this omission; if you have data, and you have permission, you can write into Health Connect. Samsung Health does have step data, and it has permission to write steps.

So I’m guessing maybe Samsung has some strategic reason for withholding step data. And if that’s the case, I would not expect this to change in the foreseeable future.

Have you applied the latest update to Galaxy Watch released this week? It fixed a lot of Samsung Health issues. Does the watch Health Settings have Health Services for sharing?

Just want to make sure that is all done before I go back and see if this is bug or not.

I have not done so; the issue does not really seem to be specific to the watch, and the phone I was testing on does not even have a watch paired. I walked around with the phone in my pocket, saw that it registered a step count, and those steps were not transferred to Health Connect. All Health Connect permissions were enabled, and if I manually entered some data (e.g. food intake), it was written to Health Connect, but steps were not.

See attached screenshots, showing steps registered in Samsung Health (both today and yesterday), and showing the access log from Health Connect, showing no writes of steps from Samsung Health.

Ahh, This may require Android 14 on the Mobile. I was thinking about data from the Watch to Health connect to the Mobile not internally on the mobile.

In the Samsung Health App do you have Sync with Samsung Account on? I don’t know if that matters or not. At least now I understand what you are asking about. :slight_smile:

That was Android 13, but just tested and I’m seeing the same on Android 14.

Sync with Samsung Account is on.

I’ll see if I can forward this on to the Health team. I don’t have a direct contact just another team that works with them.

I asked and there is a release to be pushed in December 2023.

I believe it has fixed the issues you reported.

Thanks! I will keep an eye out for it.

We have the same problem. We are testing with a Samsung Galaxy Note9 with Android 10. We have the Samsung Health app installed with the latest version (6.25.1.011) and latest version of Health Connect. We are tracking steps and exercise sessions with the Samsung Health app but these are not being transferred to Health Connect. Please advice.

The Samsung Health team told me that they were aware of the issue and have a fix. I don’t have a deployment time other than “soon”.

Thanks for your patience,

I can’t even find Samsung health in the health connect app. But in SH it says that HC access is allowed? But by clicking on it I just come to HC where I can’t see SH. Very annoying not being able to sync with Google fit

@jill.wollert

Have you found anything in these Health tutorial blogs to be of help?

Have the same issue. After reading this thread, I then read the blog you shared Ron. I note the table in that blog listing available data types that can be synchronised between SH and Health Connect does NOT include Steps. Whilst I find this frankly unbelievable, Ron would you be able please to ask the specific question of the developers ‘what date will it be possible to write Steps data from Samsung Health to Health Connect?’. Many thanks.

What happened to the December fix for this problem? Health Connect still not receiving Steps.
Please give us a firm release date.

On my Galaxy Watch6 There was another Health update pushed out for Galaxy Watch hosted Health app, the last week of December; at least in the US. The updates don’t always get pushed out worldwide and model versions at the same time.

Interesting, but how can this have anything to do with getting data from the phone app Samsung Health to Health Connect. I don’t have a problem getting data from my watch into Samsung Health.

I don’t know if it did or not. I was just surprised to see a Galaxy Watch update at the end of the year when I thought it had been fixed earlier last month.

You should open a support request and let them know all the information.

Hi, its March 2024 and STILL this is not working. Samsung Health is not WRITING ANY DATA to Health Connect… not steps, not workouts, not active calories, not anything. Nothing transfers from Samsung Health app to Health Connect despite having the most updated version of both apps installed on my phone.

@RocketJourney
In your watch health settings do you have Sare with Services enabled?

Have you read the Accessing Samsung Health Data through Health Connect blog written in January?

Yes, I have read and followed all instructions. Activity data types are not transferring to Health Connect. Only food logs are transferring. But not the things that matter most: steps and exercise sessions (workouts).
