Wear OS Watch Faces on Samsung Galaxy Store

Hello,
Just saw the post and FAQ section for Watch Face Studio and Watch Face Converter.

Will Samsung Watch Face Developers be able to sell content for Galaxy Watch 4 on Samsung Galaxy Store? or just via Google’s Play Store?
Now or in the near future?

Thank you

For most of the world the apps using WearOS powered by Samsung will be distributed on Play Store.

China does not allow Play Store so the Chinese Galaxy Store will distribute Android watch faces/apps there. There is an option for 396 x 396 Android Watch in the seller portal when you upload but it is only for China.

Thank you Ron for your quick reply

So you’re saying that I won’t be able to sell watch faces the same way I did for old Tizen watches? And if watch face designers don’t have that opportunity, then why do we need your new watch? As well as new conversion and development programs? I’ll even say more, all the watches that you have on Tizen will die literally in a year, maybe in a year and a half, and the store will stop bringing you money. All this Tizen devices are outdated in one way or another.

No Future for watchface deginer anymore on galaxy store. So theme can sell galaxy store but watchface for galaxy watch 4 can not sell. Now we have to create an account Play Store selling watchface for all watchface running wear os in the middle of million app unrelated to watchface with no separate table of contents for watch face . so are we still a developer for samsung ?. No, samsung simply abandoned us. :grinning:

And who needs our paid watch faces when there are applications like Facer  I agree with you.

So, we can sell only on Play Store? No more Galaxy Store? But how about customers that already purchased faces on Galaxy Store?

Once again I was convinced that you should not trust custom solutions when there are giants with a more developed ecosystem. This is true for most Samsung products. I think that soon we will see this with TVs as well. Because there is no better solution than android. It will at least make it more convenient for developers, who now need to adapt their applications to all platforms, even if they are not updated for a long time.

Now I have a number of questions and doubts:

  • You were taking a big commission on sales and that’s not a bad thing. For that money you could have developed your store and promoted profitable designs. Improve your software.

  • Now I doubt the future of your idea. All the funds will go through the Google store. And I think you will quickly forget about developing a new development tool without a payback.

Just look at how your main competitor’s product is developing. And you will see that even the oldest watch model will get the latest update. It’s just a shame.

You can still sell faces on Galaxy Store for all Samsung watches excepted the newly released GW4

I haven’t even received an email about this yet. Maybe I’ll consider switching to the AW team, which will definitely be more stable.

do we now have to register and place watch faces in the play market and pay a commission there? right?

yes, we have to start all over on a different platform without a dedicated section for watch faces…

Hi Ron,
Along that same line, I just uploaded two faces (tizen) to the Galaxy store yesterday and I noticed that they updated the online form to include the Galaxy Watch 4. So I’m confused. I thought I read that the WearOS (Galaxy Watch 4) faces would need to be uploaded to the Google Play store and not the Samsung Galaxy store.
Can you clarify this? Sorry, I guess I’m in the same boat as everyone else and I’m still trying to figure everything out for the new watch requirements. Thanks!

Google and google apps are not allowed in China so this option is for China only.

If you select this option it will pop up a notice saying it is only for China and all other countries will be removed.

So to sell in the most important market in the world, you cannot do it from the Google store, but if you create / convert faces for this new system, you can sell “only in china” excluding the other countries from the Samsung store, it is like this ? or from the Samsung store are all countries included when you upload one of these new faces?

When you upload a binary to the seller portal.
There is a check box that must be selected if you use Google Services. If you select yes then your app / watch face China is not enabled as a selling country.
If you Select an Android based watch then only China is enabled as a selling country.

With Wear OS watch faces on Google Play only. How does that affect the Galaxy Store Watch Face Service Pledge? (4-(ii) registering at least 1 new content or 1 new update every three (3) months.)

Do we need to produce Tizen watch faces for the next three years until Watch3 support expires?

What rumor did you hear that Galaxy Watch3 support will expire? But to answer your question Yes you will still need to do two updates or uploads to the Galaxy Store.

I assume it applies to Tizen watches. Three years is a long time in tech world.
