Thank you for discussing it one more time with the appropriate teams. Mac Users are without GDS since November 2020. You can understand that this long time that we are working with workarounds such as Parallels, windows PCs or remote desktops. Even if it is possible to find and apply workarounds, i think that you can agree that we feel that we are left out. Windows users have updates much faster.
We would expect that since Samsung is aware of this problem, they would do as much as they can to mitigate it. Its more than 2 months that the development team has a version that works on Big Sur but due to a bug it was not released. It seems to me that 2 months for a bug is also long time especially since Ron has confirmed above that we are not expecting any change or new features, just a working version of what we used to have.
Could i please kindly ask you to inform us of the outcome of your discussions with the teams as well as a potential ETA of the update?
Iāve read the previous replies, so I donāt want to give any false impressions. One of my colleagues has used the update and says it works on his Big Sur MBP. However, weāre not the team that creates or releases the tool. Iāve been told a date it will be released, but Iām not going to put my credibility on the line with this community to quote it publicly.
I absolutely understand the frustration as Iāve been there in different communities myself.
I donāt think it is about your credibility, itās about Samsungās and lately something is going very wrong. While i will go a bit off topic let me explain my views:
Samsungās wants the 30% of our faces but is unable to release an update of the tool that creates those faces for Mac for more than 7 months. And what is even worse, the official announcement is ādo not update your macā. Why donāt they reduce the fee?
We all signed a pledge to release or update a face every 3 months and get reminders about it but when we submit, it takes a month to be approved. Even if we add a picture or change the descriptions (no binary update) it goes to testing to real devices. Why donāt they build a more efficient process?
Lately Samsung limited the number of coupons to turn a mindset they allowed to be created in the first place. Nevertheless, now we have 90% discounts and this is allowed. Didnāt they think that this will happen? Itās not just us loosing money, itās them as well.
Tizen Studio had the same problem on Big Sur with GWS but a fix was released much sooner. Of course, because Tizen Studio is bigger money cow than GWS.
Updates were performed to the Galaxy Store to change the placement of the āWatch buttonā making it less visible resulting in less sales.
Every one understands the frustration and this is a sentence we hear a bit too often. Well, i donāt want to be understood, i want to be heard. If you can get a contact person that can finally hear me but actually do something, i would much appreciate it.
Iām scared. It will not be discussed at all on this topic, not here in the forum and not at the Samsung Developer program. The last answer I got on 29.03.21. Since then I asked twice after a solution. It is not answered. It is simply ignored! Samsung ⦠Whatās wrong with you!?
Because the releases were not deployed in the past when expected I felt that posting expected times was more harmful than not responding. I didnāt mean to ignore you.
Right now Galaxy Watch Studio and Galaxy Watch Designer (older version of GWS) supports macOS 10.8 Lion to 10.15.x Catalina. There has been no updates for GWS 2.0 for Mac or Windows.
Apple macOS 11.x Big Sur does not support Java JRE and Galaxy Watch Studio 2.0 requires it.
You can create a virtual Windows in macOS Big Sur and run GWS in it.
I am no longer speculating on a release but I see Apple did an update of macOS Big Sur two weeks ago and I donāt know how that affects GWS.
after following this for months now I think that Samsung will discontinue GWS for Macs with the upcoming new watches. These most likely will be Wear OS and not Tizen based so the current Tizen based GWS would not work on the new watches anyway. Probably the Mac GWS programmer(s) are not available any more to fix the issues and Samsung doesnāt want to hire someone to fix a dead horse.
I was able to run Galaxy Watch Studio on BigSur. Itās strange why the developers on the Samsung side havenāt done this yet ā¦
Unfortunately - I still cannot say that everything works correctly, because I have not tested it yet. The application starts and I can do something there. I have not encountered GWS before and have no experience. As soon as I make at least 1 watchface, I will post the launch instructions here.
I spent about 15 minutes on launch to figure out what was going on ā¦
masOS Big Sur removed the Java Runtime Environment from the OS. I suspect you have that installed in some other software. It would be interesting to know how you did it.
